SRF Foundation, in partnership with Global Vikas Trust (GVT), is advancing rural prosperity in Bharuch, Gujarat, through its Farmer Livelihood Enhancement Project. Centered around sustainable, banana-based farming models, the initiative supports small and marginal farmers in improving productivity, resilience, and long-term income security. During 2024–25, the program engaged 250 farmer families across 406 acres, distributing more than 600,000 high-quality tissue-culture banana saplings. These saplings offer uniform growth, higher yields, and greater disease resistance, helping farmers transition from traditional practices to scientifically guided cultivation. Comprehensive training on land preparation, crop nutrition, pest and disease management, and water-efficient irrigation equips farmers with the skills needed to optimize production and adopt climate-resilient methods.
Beyond income enhancement, the project places strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and community empowerment. The banana cultivation model supports soil conservation, improves groundwater recharge, and contributes to carbon sequestration, fostering ecological balance in the region. Training sessions on integrated pest management, organic inputs, and post-harvest handling further promote responsible agriculture. Women’s participation and farmer-to-farmer learning platforms ensure inclusive growth and wider knowledge-sharing. With farmers reporting improved crop health and greater confidence in scientific farming, the program is emerging as a scalable model for rural development, helping communities cultivate stronger livelihoods and a more resilient future.
