SRF Foundation’s Natural Resource Management initiative in Alwar, Rajasthan, is strengthening water security and ecological resilience through a comprehensive and community-driven approach. In collaboration with the Society for Promotion and Conservation of Environment (SPACE), the program focuses on restoring traditional water structures, enhancing groundwater recharge, and enabling sustainable use of natural resources across 35 villages. The construction of new paals, desiltation of existing structures, and renovation of key water bodies—such as the Sattiwala pond in Nasopur—have significantly improved local water availability for households, agriculture, and livestock. Notable outcomes include the substantial rise in the water table in Gualda village, demonstrating the impact of well-planned watershed interventions. Complementing these efforts, plantation drives, including 500 fodder plants and the creation of a mini forest, are helping revive biodiversity and strengthen the local ecosystem.
Community participation remains central to the program’s long-term success. Events like Van-Mahotsav foster awareness and ownership, while the construction of soak pits and other decentralized water solutions promote better wastewater management. Over the years, cumulative groundwater recharge has consistently exceeded extraction needs, showcasing the sustainability of the model. Together, SRF Foundation and SPACE are enabling low-income rural communities to build a resilient environmental future—one that preserves natural resources, restores ecological balance, and supports secure livelihoods for generations to come.
