Dr. Parmod Kumar is the State Programme Officer in the Directorate of Elementary Education, Haryana, Panchkula. He began his career as a teacher in the Haryana Education Department. Due to his innovative and extraordinary approach towards improving learning outcomes for students, he was selected to serve as the State Programme Officer in the Directorate of School Education.
Dr. Parmod Kumar completed his PhD in Education, focusing on evaluation and assessment, in 2020. He has significantly contributed to the implementation of the Right to Education Act, NIPUN Bharat, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) under NEP 2020, as well as to the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for school education and the foundation stage.
A TEDx speaker, Dr. Parmod Kumar has also spoken at the MEducation Alliance at George Mason University. He has travelled to more than 52 countries, visited prestigious universities worldwide, interacted with teachers from 40 countries, and attended and taught in countries across four continents. His expertise extends to initiative design, policy drafting, book and training module development, new teaching methodology development, and content development. He has worked with SCERT, NCERT, NCTE, CIET, UNESCO, and other national and international organizations.
Throughout his career, Dr. Parmod Kumar has made substantial contributions to strengthening the education system through his innovative initiatives. His work in the field of ICT is particularly noteworthy. He has developed several pedagogical tools, which have been recognized and awarded by various international organizations such as UNESCO (Paris), ADB, USAID, UNDP, IEA (Germany), UFF (Denmark and Finland), Osh State University (Kyrgyzstan), and institutions in Uzbekistan.
One of his major contributions is the concept of Joyful Learning, which has been successfully implemented across Haryana State. The Joyful Saturday initiative has been praised in teacher education institutions in Germany, Finland, Denmark, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, and many African countries. Additionally, he developed the Mid-Day Meal Mobile App for Haryana schools, which has streamlined processes for teachers.
Dr. Parmod Kumar’s work in the field of Virtual Reality (VR) is also remarkable. He developed smart, low-cost VR headsets that are now being utilized in schools across India, Africa, and the Middle East. His efforts also led to the establishment of Quiz Clubs in Government Schools of Haryana, which have revolutionized learning and improved academic performance among students.
Moreover, he has authored a series of books, journals, and educational modules. His expertise in writing research papers is evident in the 20 papers he has published in national and international journals. His recent research on improving the mental health of 9th-grade students in rural and urban government schools in Haryana is a milestone achievement.
He was a member of the Haryana Education Policy Draft Committee and has been honoured numerous times by various institutions and dignitaries. His achievements include the prestigious State and National Teacher Awards for his dedication and impact on education. His efforts have also placed Haryana State at the forefront of implementing the Right to Education Act.
Dr. Parmod Kumar has worked closely with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), UNESCO, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Panchayat Raj Institutions, the Women & Child Development Department (WCD), and the National Rural Health Mission Programme, among others.
He has presented his work at various international forums, including a presentation on sustainable waste management in schools at a UNITAR capacity-building event in Osaka, Japan, organized by UNDP. He also attended a one-month ICT training with MASHAV in Israel and presented his VR devices at UNESCO’s Mobile Learning Week in Paris in March 2016. Additionally, he showcased his pedagogy and innovations at Helsinki University, Finland, and other institutes in Stockholm, Sweden, in April 2017.
His concept of Learning Without Burden and the Happiness Index in Schools are highly regarded in teacher education systems. In recognition of his contributions, he was honoured with the National ICT Award in 2017 by the MHRD, Government of India.
